UK Technical Sales OTE Benchmarks for 2026

What technical sales engineers, account managers and sales directors actually earn across UK industrial markets in 2026 - base, OTE, accelerators and benefits.

Base salaries for UK technical sales engineers have moved upward of 6 per cent year-on-year since 2022, broadly tracking the engineering-wide salary inflation reported by Hays, Reed and Make UK pay surveys. Variable compensation has moved faster, with on-plan OTE up roughly 10–14 per cent over the same period.

By role: field-based technical sales engineers selling components or instrumentation typically earn £45,000–£58,000 base with £65,000–£85,000 OTE. Capital equipment sales engineers - long-cycle, six- and seven-figure deals - sit at £55,000–£75,000 base with £90,000–£130,000 OTE. Senior key account managers handling £3m+ territories regularly exceed £150,000 on plan.

Sales managers and country managers in industrial markets cluster at £85,000–£115,000 base with bonus or commission taking realistic earnings to £130,000–£180,000. UK sales directors at OEM and integrator businesses earn £130,000–£180,000 base with packages frequently exceeding £250,000 including LTIPs.

Benefits have become a genuine differentiator. Fully expensed EVs (typically a Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3, Polestar 2 or equivalent) are now standard at account-manager level and above; pure cash allowances have receded to £7,000–£9,000.

Two patterns matter for benchmarking: accelerator design (above-quota commission rates of 1.5–2.0x are now common) and quota credibility (employers offering achievable quotas with rigorous territory analytics are winning measurably more offers than higher-headline quotas without supporting data).
