UK Maintenance & Reliability Engineer Salary Report 2026

Multi-skilled, electrical-bias and shift-based maintenance pay across UK manufacturing, plus the rising premium for predictive maintenance and CMMS leadership.

Multi-skilled maintenance engineers (electrical bias) in UK FMCG and food manufacturing now earn £45,000–£55,000 on continental shift, with the shift allowance typically accounting for 18–24 per cent of total pay. Days-based equivalents sit £8,000–£12,000 lower.

Mechanical-bias maintenance pay is broadly £3,000–£6,000 below electrical-bias at equivalent seniority, reflecting the relative supply of qualified electrical candidates in the UK market.

Reliability engineers - typically degree-qualified, sitting between maintenance and engineering - earn £52,000–£68,000 in pharma and process, with seniors in regulated environments reaching £75,000. CMMS leadership roles (typically owning SAP PM, IBM Maximo or Infor EAM at site level) attract a further 6–10 per cent premium.

Predictive maintenance is the standout uplift of 2026. Engineers with hands-on experience of vibration analysis, thermography and data-driven condition monitoring tooling (AVEVA, GE Vernova, ABB Ability, Siemens Senseye) attract premiums of 10–14 per cent against peers performing primarily reactive and PPM work.

Engineering manager - maintenance roles cluster at £72,000–£88,000 base across regions, with senior site engineering managers in large pharma and aerospace plants reaching £95,000–£115,000 plus bonus.
