Introduction

This permanent role supports an established manufacturing business. As an Estimating Engineer, you will review customer enquiries and prepare accurate, commercially competitive quotations. You will interpret engineering drawings and specifications to assess manufacturing feasibility and calculate costs.

Responsibilities

  • Review drawings, CAD models, and specifications to assess manufacturing requirements.
  • Prepare accurate quotations for materials, tooling, processes, finishing, and inspection.
  • Issue RFQs to subcontract suppliers and incorporate costs into quotations.
  • Maintain supplier pricing, estimating information, and customer data within the ERP system.
  • Support new product introduction through cost estimates, BOMs, and manufacturing routings.
  • Review manufacturability and identify potential cost-saving or process improvement opportunities.
  • Work with sales and operational teams to clarify technical and commercial requirements.
  • Occasionally attend customer meetings to support technical discussions.

Requirements

  • Engineering background with ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Organised, accurate, and commercially aware approach.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to work across multiple departments.
  • Strong willingness to learn about manufacturing processes and estimating systems.
  • Experience in engineering costing or technical estimating (advantageous).
  • Knowledge of investment casting, forging, MIM, or related manufacturing processes (beneficial).
