Introduction

This is a hands-on Mechanical Engineer position, combining maintenance, fault finding, and manual machining. You will maintain production equipment, respond to breakdowns, and manufacture or modify components. It's an opportunity to join an established engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to mechanical breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
  • Carry out planned and preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
  • Diagnose faults and identify root causes of equipment failures.
  • Manufacture, repair and modify mechanical components.
  • Set and operate manual centre lathes and vertical milling machines.
  • Work with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Support fault finding involving electrical controls, PLCs and drives.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety.
  • Support reliability and performance of manufacturing equipment.

Requirements

  • Recognised engineering qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent).
  • Experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience operating manual lathes and milling machines (minimum three years).
  • Good understanding of preventative maintenance systems.
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and controls.
  • Good communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
